#Horror Day 20: Amityville, NY

For those of us who have been along on the adventure so far, a Universe that scares me to death .. the Conjuring … cause the real story took place so close to us here in New York City right up the train tracks in Connecticut.

… Wait wait wait .. Im gonna save that one til closer to the ol’ Halloween. Let’s keep it super local tonight and go to a NY story and town …. oh you know the one, Amityville. My cousin got married in Amityville and yes I was keen to see the house in person. I am sure the current owners love this time of year with all the looky-loos and all (not sure how to spell that).

Anyhow, after the ceremony, I waited around to ask a local and on the steps of the church, I turn and see this strange kid standing off on the steps away from the group. Always ask a local kid, they are better than Atlas Obscura to tell you ‘what is what’ in a town – they know all the legends. After several minutes of denying he knew where the house was, he caved and drew me a map. So I grabbed my Aunt and we drove to the house.

Also I may have not mentioned that I read the book too – so if 1/100th of what was written in that back were true .. that place is haunted! Anyhow at the house it was a little disappointing .. in the daytime .. the classic quarter circle windows at the top of the house are now rectangular and the house seems to face another direction. It didn’t seem like the first movie’s house at all … as a matter of fact if I didn’t see other cars looking at the house too, and people pointing from inside the comfort of their vehicles, I might have missed it. Today’s Sunday Night Scare trailers are for the original and the remake. First the original:

and then they made this, not sure if the casting works because Ryan Reynolds makes me laugh more than frightens me .. oh well .. maybe gives the character depth:

The Amityville Horror 2005 Trailer from Daily Trailer! on Vimeo.

That 1979 trailer is pretty clever though – opens like an advertisement from that era. Hmmm. Anyhow, thats all for this October weekend night – see you tomorrow. Love, DT!
