Jan. 23rd, 2024: Adaptation

Mixing Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, and David Bowie together is a recipe for success. One word of caution about this trailer – the song will stay in your head for days, and that’s a good thing. So, be forewarned and watch this amazing trailer edited by Jennifer Horvath, back when she was at the Ant Farm:

While Nicholas Cage clearly shines as the star of this movie, there are outstanding performances from the entire cast. Playing twins with such nuanced, subtle differences is nothing short of genius. The depiction of writers’ neurosis, with their reliance on coffee to help them think, is a living embodiment of Steve Pressfield’s “The War of Art” and “Do the Work.”

Way back in the day, I attended one of those Robert McKee story writing weekends in New York City, and I absolutely loved it. Brian Cox embodies the man, his message, and his mannerisms in the film.

"I don't want to ruin it by making it a Hollywood thing .. its like I don't want to cram in sex or guns or car chases, or characters overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end!"
Charlie Kaufman

I might not understand much about orchids then or now, or ever but I do understand writers and knowing them, I can watch this trailer over and over again and see something new!
