So I learned this morning that 67 years ago today, Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. So in the spirit of that achievement we have:
And staying in theme, Touching the Void based on a true story …
WOW you can feel the tension between these two former friends. Well worth a watch for many things: 1. Could you forgive him? 2. Has he forgiven him? 3. Do you have that determination to just keep putting one foot in front of the other like that? (broken feet and legs no less!!) Very inspiring! and REAL!!
And then for a third film in theme, Vertical Limit – this is an okay story, the opening is very hard with the Father but .. it’s worth a watch! A little too much Hollywood drama like explosions, when as you can see from Everest, a climb doesn’t need explosions to add to the drama – there is REAL drama every step of the way!
We don’t recommend a triple feature tonight – even if you are still “sheltering-in-place”. It’s just too much climbing and cold! But enjoy!!! Maybe save one or two for a hotter day in the summer – it will let you appreciate the heat!!
